Contamination Tests

Testing contaminants in waterbased mud systems

In general, a mud contaminant can be any type of foreign material that enters the mud system. Whether it is of pressurized solid, liquid, gas, micro biological nature, it is has a detrimental effect on the physical or chemical characteristics of a drilling fluid. Niva Solutions' mud contamination tests primarily focus on the following common chemical contaminants of water-based muds:

  • drilled solids

  • seawater

  • evaporites as gypsum, anhydrite and salt

  • cement in injected soil

  • and others.

Having the right lab equipment ready to perform contamination tests is essential. But having the ability to correctly utilize this equipment is paramount. With the results from our testing, our mud experts are able to do proper interpretation and will deliver tangible fluid performance improvements to our clients.

We can anticipate complex drilling problems and will determine state-of-the-art fluid solutions and treatments that will eventually have a positive impact on the effectiveness of the client's project.
