All bentonite tests are carried out in our fully equipped drilling fluid laboratories following different testing methods, such as API, HD or CE testing procedure. Especially for drilling projects with a high risk of contamination (e.g. salt, gypsum, organic components etc.) it is important to evaluate the sensitivity of a bentonite towards potential contaminants through prior bentonite analysis.

Bentonites are natural clay products with different chemistry and layer structure. Some bentonites swell very fast and can be used 10 minutes after mixing, others require high shear mixing and hydration time of up to 24 hours to achieve their optimum rheological properties. Such difference in hydration behavior can become a very high cost factor if the mixer on site is not sufficient, there are not enough storage tanks on the drilling site or insufficient time to let the bentonite hydrate for several hours. With the results of our bentonite analysis we are able to help our clients select the right bentonite adapted on your site equipment, ground and water conditions.
