Backfill Grout Testing
Backfill grout & mineral injection slurries testing
A mineral grout suspension is a blend of liquid and granular matter. Suspensions used in geotechnical works consists of water, as an aqueous liquid phase, and a solid phase defined by mineral grains such as cement, bentonite and fillers. The cement is hydrated by water to lead to the mechanical strength while the bentonite stabilizes the cement particles. Additives such as thinners, retarders or hardeners are sometimes necessary to adapt to special conditions.
In order to formulate mineral grouts other factors such as the treatment objective and contractual requirements need to be taken into account. Niva Solutions has the knowledge and equipment to formulate and test preliminary grout formulations in their laboratory for injection grouts and slurries and backfill grouts. Through utilization of mixing, testing and analytical equipment, we are able to solve complex project challenges and effectively reach the contractor's objective.
lnjection grouts and slurries
lnjection grouts and slurries are used in Civil Engineering works. Particularly in grauting they have to exhibit specific characteristics such as low permeability and compressive strength.
Backfill grout test
During the construction of a tunnel with a shielded TBM the void behind the segments needs to be filled with a pressurized grout or other similar material. Failure to do this results in ground subsidence, asymmetrical loads on the concrete segments and possible damage or leakage through the tunnel gaskets. Backfill Grout tests are designed around performance requirements rather than prescriptive requirements. This allows more imaginative use of materials and allows for the most effective solution for a particular application.
